In Christmas Mood already?

It's not even November. But everybody is talking about Christmas already. How are you dealing with this? For me personally Christmas doesn't start before the first Sunday in Advent. OK, if I need an Advent calendar I should go for it a few days in advance. And if I want some of these special Christmas cookies on that Sunday, I should get them the day before, too.

Selling Rocking Horses for Christmas also starts in October and so does designing invitation cards or similar for events at this time of the year.
But - to be honest, now I want to concentrate on late autumn and on misty November weather. I want to prepare my garden for winter, want to feed the small hedgehogs to help them hibernating well, want to walk through the first fallen leaves and to enjoy the few sunny days left. I want to build a new bird feeder, want to think about whether or not to buy a new winter coat and what to do with all the late apples. I want to look for mushrooms, want to smell the last roses and chocolate flowers and I want to decorate my garden table with rose hips. I want all that but not Christmas. Not yet.

Want to come to the Martinsmarkt?

OK, Etsy is going. In between I'm doing other stuff. Invitation cards for my favourite flower shop for example.

On 8th November 2009 there will be Martinsmarkt in Hoffnungsthal, a small village not too far from Cologne. On that Sunday all shops along the main street are opened. There will be stands on the town hall square offering delicious wine and food and the first Christmas decoration. In the town hall you can get coffee and cake and visit some exhibitions. It's a small but fine market.

Frauke, the flower shop owner sends invitation cards for this event to her customers and it's me to design these cards. The theme varies every year. This year it is ice, snow and deep red Christmas items.

This is the front of the invitation card:

This is the back where the address label is added:

I like how it turned out. Cool, icy and with that hint of deep red Christmas. You should browse Frauke's shop for this colour combination on Martinsmarkt.

Added November, 6:
Did you realise that the date printed on the back of the card is wrong??!! It says 2008 but of course it should read 2009! Oh my God! It's definitly my fault. When I saw this all cards had been send out already - and nobody, neither Frauke nor her customers had seen this mistake! Unbelievable! It's one of those typical  mistakes you make. You double check it again and again - but the most simple faults you don't see. Hell!

A Rocking Horse for Children

They should have gotten a blog on their own. Rocking horses. I will do it some time later. But rocking horses definitely are extremely ornamental - so why not add them here?

This here is Europe's favourite rocking horse, the best rocking horse for children I know (and I do know a lot about rocking horses!).

It is manufactured in Germany by a small company in the Erzgebirge, an area well known for its high class woodwork.

OK, there are lovely old-style rocking horses around. A traditional hand carved English rocking horse is a class of its own. And so is the price. Adequately. If you cannot afford such a beauty or if in your opinion this simply is too much money for a toy, then this lovely horse may well be an alternative.

It is a modern horse for today's children. Made of solid beech with mane and tail made of pure wool and with a lovely saddle and bridle of genuine leather. The quality of this horse is excellent and will withstand children's play for generations to come.

This horse is very safe (although you never should let ride very small or unpracticed children without attendance!!). It weighs about 30 lbs, which is much heavier than most rocking horses of comparable size. This, combined with the low centre of gravity and the relatively shallow rockers, would make it extremely difficult for a young child to tip over, either when riding or not.

The horse meets all the required German and European safety standards. It has also been awarded a "Spiel Gut" (literally "Good Play") award by an independent German testing body, which tests toys for their value for creative play and safety. It also won an award for design and safety at the world-renowned Toy Fair in Nuremberg.

These are all good reasons to buy this horse. But the best one is the horse's face. Have you ever seen a rocking horse with such a lovely face??

The horse is shipped worldwide. If you are living in Great Britain or Ireland please contact Kensington Rocking Horses through this site directly. Everybody else can contact me directly at mollyheyer@countryclassics.biz for a quote.

ETSY Shop Opened!

Done. The first 40 items are in my shop now. I had prepared all descriptions and images for the upload already when Etsy provided a completely new guide for SEO for Google. So I read through this guide and then I had to re-work all my descriptions!

And not only the item descriptions. Relevant for Google as well are the shop title and the first part of the shop description. You have around 60 characters for the shop title (depending on the length of your shop name) and 160 characters for the shop description. And with these few characters you have to express what your shop is about. It should be catchy and it should contain words that people searching with Google are looking for! I did some keyword research but I think, I didn't really get that. So I mixed and matched the words around and hopefully it's ok like this.

However, finally I listed my first item on September 28, this lovely VW beetle.
